OxsightHumanities Philanthropy

“We think the Wealth of Nations should be seen as really a sequel to The Theory of Moral Sentiments and they should be read together as they really represent two dialectic sides of man which is at once a self-interest oriented specie but at the same time, also a social creature capable of virtue.

As such, human sympathy could well be originated from our  “self-love” and the influence of “the impartial spectator” and as such it may well be innate and natural to human nature and may not be really different in kind  from “self-interest.”

Society, therefore, is about making the most out of these two forces, but it appears that so far the forces of “invisible hand” have been mainly employed to bring out the power of “self-interest” and not so much that of “sympathy” and the “happiness” that come from “Acting Virtuously”. Our paradigm on philanthropy can be seen as an attempt to fill such gap.”
